After years of community-driven effort, the ‡Khomani San celebrated the registration of their school in 2023. Established on communal land, the school reflects their vision for culturally grounded education—preserving language, traditions, and identity while providing formal learning. It’s a vital step in reclaiming both heritage and future for the community.

The ‡Khomani San’s return to ancestral land in 1999 marked a powerful moment of justice and recognition. Though 61,000 hectares were restored, ongoing challenges in employment, education, and infrastructure highlight that the journey toward full restitution continues for one of South Africa’s last remaining First Peoples.
