Parenting Support and Skills Development Program

Project Name: Empowered Parenting for Stronger Families

Objective: To strengthen family units by equipping parents with essential parenting skills and support mechanisms that foster healthy relationships and child development.

Target Group: Parents and caregivers of children attending Eland School and surrounding farms.

Facilitator: Letitea Molise – Community Service Facilitator (CSF)

Partnerships: In collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare for structure, protocol, and reporting.

Program Overview:

  • Originally launched in 2017 as a six-part workshop tailored for Eland School parents.

  • Ongoing delivery through small group sessions across six farming communities.

  • Includes house-to-house visits and individual counselling where needed.

Outcomes:

  • Improved parenting confidence and communication within families.

  • Strengthened parent-child relationships.

  • Increased community trust in support services.

Sustainability: Continued rollout as part of a regular community engagement plan. Integration with other wellbeing and education programs offered by the school.

Youth Life Skills and Personal Development Holiday Program

Project Name: Future Builders: Dream, Inspire, Implement.

Objective: To provide adolescents with life skills training, personal development support, and vision-building tools to help shape positive futures.

Target Group: Community Learners from Grades 8 to 12.

Frequency: Twice yearly during school holidays

Facilitator: Letitea Molise – CSF, with support from student teachers

Program Overview:

  • Workshops attended by 20–30 learners per session.

  • Focus on confidence-building, goal setting, and essential life skills.

  • Student teachers act as assistants, gaining valuable mentorship and facilitation experience.

Activities Include:

  • Personal goal planning

  • Communication and leadership skills

  • Emotional awareness and self-esteem building

Outcomes:

  • Youth gain confidence to envision and pursue better life paths.

  • Student teachers enhance their teaching and social engagement skills.

  • Community-wide inspiration through youth motivated to secure a future where the entire community benefits.

Community Support Eland School

Community Support and Social Welfare Liaison

Project Name: Community Connections: Integrated Support Services

Objective: To provide a structured and accessible support system for families and individuals in the Eland School catchment area, ensuring timely assistance and stronger links to formal social services.

Target Group: All residents of the Eland School community, including vulnerable families.

Facilitator: Letitea Molise – Community Service Facilitator and Liaison Officer

Protocol Development:

A formalised structure was co-designed with the Department of Social Welfare to:

  • Define Ms Molise’s responsibilities

  • Establish clear communication routes

  • Enable regular reporting and accountability

Services Provided:

  • General community support

  • Referrals to government services

  • Counselling and informal support

  • Coordination of workshops and local resources

Outcomes:

  • Improved access to government welfare and social development programs.

  • Increased trust and participation in community services.

  • A responsive and coordinated approach to community challenges.

Impact Measurement: Ongoing feedback from community members and government stakeholders informs program improvements and ensures accountability.
